The best time to fill up is when you need fuel and a recently reported price fits your route and budget. This guide does not identify a guaranteed cheapest weekday or hour for Edmonton: that would require a dated historical analysis, and individual stations can change prices between reports.
Compare the report before choosing a day
Start with Edmonton’s reported gas prices and compare the grade your vehicle needs. A low number from an older observation is not directly comparable with a newer report after a market change. Our sources are checked hourly, but a check does not mean every station has a new observation.
On a station page, the report time identifies the source observation when available; the last-checked time identifies our source check. Confirm the price displayed at the pump before fuelling. The history chart provides available past observations, not a guarantee of what that station will charge later today.
Use your actual Edmonton route
Compare stops you will already pass on Gateway Boulevard, the Whitemud, Stony Plain Road, 97 Street or your usual local roads. The cheapest citywide report may be inconvenient to reach. Check the exact address, directions, membership requirements and any hours information before adding a stop.
- Choose the correct fuel grade and compare reports of similar age.
- Check two or more suitable stations along your existing trip.
- Account for any extra driving, queue time and membership cost.
- Keep enough fuel for your planned journey instead of waiting for an assumed price drop.
Is waiting until Tuesday or early morning worthwhile?
A weekday rule cannot confirm a station’s future price. Claims that Monday or Tuesday is always cheapest, or that prices reset between 2 and 6 a.m., are not supported by a historical study on this page. Check timestamped reports when you are planning to buy fuel rather than scheduling a special trip around those claims.
Our tomorrow forecast is a dated model estimate. You can use it as context alongside current reports, but it does not guarantee the price at a particular pump or establish how long you can safely postpone a necessary fill-up.
Planning for holidays and seasonal travel
For Victoria Day, Canada Day, Heritage Day, Labour Day or Thanksgiving trips, compare suitable stops before departure. We do not assume every long weekend produces a fixed increase or that Wednesday always beats Thursday. Fuel availability, your travel schedule and remaining range matter as well as the price.
Wholesale costs, fuel specifications, refinery supply and taxes can change over the year. Those factors do not establish a fixed seasonal cents-per-litre increase. See the dated Alberta trends guide and current tax breakdown for context rather than treating a past season’s prices as a current quote.
Calculate whether a detour pays
A hypothetical 5¢/L difference on a 50-litre fill saves $2.50 before extra driving. If the detour uses 0.9 litres at $1.60/L, it costs $1.44 in fuel, leaving $1.06 before considering time. Use your own vehicle consumption, actual route and reported price difference rather than assuming every cheaper station produces a worthwhile saving.
Correction — October 7, 2026: removed unsupported weekday, early-morning and long-weekend price guarantees. The guidance now compares dated reports on your route.
