Esso has one of the largest station counts of any brand we track in Edmonton, partly because many corner stores and 7-Eleven sites pump Esso-branded fuel. There's also a hometown angle: Esso is Imperial Oil's brand, and Imperial's Strathcona refinery — the largest in Western Canada — sits just across the city's eastern boundary, so Esso fuel here is about as local as gasoline gets. Breadth makes Esso the brand you are statistically most likely to be nearest to, and it also produces one of the widest in-brand price spreads in the city: the gap between the cheapest and priciest Esso on the same day regularly exceeds 15 cents per litre.
Esso and Mobil stations earn PC Optimum points (the same program as Superstore), redeemable on groceries at Loblaw banners — a quiet rebate worth roughly 1–2¢/L at base earn rates and more during promos. Many Edmonton Esso sites are operated by 7-Eleven, which is why you'll sometimes see both names on our station cards: the fuel is Esso, the store is 7-Eleven.
