Downtown is the hardest part of Edmonton to find cheap gas, and the reason is simple: there is very little of it. Land around Jasper Avenue, 104 Avenue and the ICE District is worth more as towers and parking than as pump islands, so the handful of stations that survive in and around the core — toward Oliver (Wîhkwêntôwin), Rossdale and the Stadium end of 118 Avenue — tend to post near the top of the city range. If you drive downtown daily, the game is less about hunting a bargain block by block and more about knowing which of the few core stations is cheapest before you commit.
Most downtown drivers do better topping up on the way in or out: Kingsway and the 111 Avenue corridor to the north, 109 Street heading south toward the university and the Whitemud, or across the river around Garneau and Old Strathcona all price a few cents below the pumps buried in the core.
